…….not exactly a traditional bait but nevertheless,

I have just been reading about Moley’s exploits on the Avon.
I have used pellets as loose feed but not on the hook.
I vaguely know how it’s done,but what in practice do you folks do to attach them to the hook?

Guru produce ready tied hooks, with a pellet band on a short hair. This works well however if the hair is not for you, you can band the hard pellet on the bend of the hook.

Pellets work for most fish. Roach are particularly drawn to them. Just a few samples round the hook each cast....no need for groundbait as it's use is
actually counter productive. No doubt others will have their own view points on that statement but Fatty can only talk from his own experience.

They are good and if you use the less oily feed pellets, are good for the fish. Just don't over do the feed though. Half a dozen round the float are more than enough each cast.

Simple to use and clean too.

Had lots of fish on pellets usually silure, chub, barbel, bream. Mostly larger pellets 12 - 40mm with the largest ones for cats. Always on the lead - never used a float with them. Drilled on a hair - sometimes used with a feeder.
Barbel to double figures - cats to 35 - carp to 20s - chub to 6+.

Must get round to using smaller pellets - including soft ones - for tench, roach, etc using a float where possible.

I have some bands and a tool, just never got around to trying them.

You are right Hommer, but you have to dip your toe at some stage and pellets really have revolutionised fishing in the UK. I often superglue them to a hair, it's fiddly but effective.

There is an excellent video by Kenny Parsons of catching Avon barbel and chub with pellets.

I often use large salmon pellets for Barbel,drilled through then on a short hair,works really well.I use the smaller size for loose feed and confidence building

I use micro pellets as loose feed, little but often like maggots. I generally use drilled pellets on the hair, size dependent on desired species.

Don't bother paying for the premium pellet bands sold by the various tackle companies, dental bands are much cheaper and come in various sizes

Pellets are a grand bait,either hair rigged or banded on.I have found the Robin Red ones to be very good.
