Good morning gentlemen. Very many thanks for your contributions. It’s FJT for me, and David Carl Forbes as well…..and they are both superb books from two very different, but very talented writers….

Well the most expensive ones to buy would be the doomsday book of mammoth pike and the carp strikes again so if they were bargain price i would have bought them

I had a feeling you might have looked at the Allan Haines book as he was a very fine float angler. I fished next peg to him on the Skjern once and it was great to watch as a kid.

I'm guessing FJT and DCF as well so that makes it five!
Whoops, failed to see the later posts (honestly!) but good choices.

I'd buy FJ's book and read it twice....., hang on, I've already got it :Chuckle:

Shropshire Lad's right about value but Oxfam are quite shrewd on pricing so, I doubt there were many bargains on their shelves.

Shropshire Lad was right about prices: the carp book is £14 and the pike book £10. I returned to Oxfam this morning following Tengisgols comment about Allan Haines. All the books were still there from Saturday and I am pleased to say I am now reading Allans book (£4) - he is a writer that has escaped me so far. Dave Burr is right though: Oxfam Hereford are pretty cute on their pricing…..

Your book shelf must be groaning under the strain by now Tim.

The most entertaining writer amongst that collection was Rod Hutchinson. Not necessarily informative but his writings could be incredibly humorous and entertaining.

Allan Haines was decent match angler, very knowledgeable and one-time editor of Angling Times.

Thing is Dave, when the sun is shining; the temperatures are outrageous and the river is mostly just damp gravel, I gotta do something. I keep several books going at once and there is always something to learn from the serious writers…..not sure how I missed knowing about Allan Haines…..
