It's been awhile

Post by TrentFisher »

2022 proved to be a busy year and since around August my fishing took a back seat.

Yesterday I managed an afternoon on the Trent.
The day was overcast,a light breeze and a better temperature.

I just need to out, cane in hand and centrepin turning.
The swim I chose was a nice glide at the far end was some tree cover and a fallen branch in the water.
The plan was to long trot down to the cover.
I was in a bold mood so I mixed up some mashed bread and fed 5 balls ,letting this settle whilst I tackled up.
Following a run through to gauge the depth all was set.
Second run through, hook baited with flake saw the float disappear near the cover. The Aspindale Avon did it's job picking up the line and connection made.
The resulting lunge put a nice curve in the cane.
Short lived!
The hook pulled and the cane became lifeless.
I refrained from putting teeth marks in a favourite rod.
Would this be an only chance?
Two trots later I was in again.
The fish was fighting well very well and the battle was truly on.
The check on the Aerial was engaged and its battle cry was in fine voice.
Line was gained and my prize broke the surface.
A Chub,and a good'un.
Finally with head and wide mouth out of the water I glided this beauty over the rim of the net.
The prize was mine.
A clonker pushing five pounds.
After unhooking and resting ,the prize was returned to fight another day.
Time passed quickly .
The swim was top up.
A few trots later as my float entered the shadows of cover it disappeared again.
The same reaction and another chub was on.
Again it was like an action replay.
The prize was in the four pound bracket and in fine condition.
It was a great return.I was happy just to be fishing again.
The chub were the icing on the cake.
Until next time.....

Enjoy your outings.-Nige

Well done Nige, a nice reward on a rare outing. Hope you can get out a few more times before seasons end.
