Allcocks Record Breaker whipping thread colour?

Post by Cat »

Afternoon All, could someone please let me know a matching whipping thread colour for the scarlett/ red on a Record Breaker? I'm thinking Fish Hawk Scarlett 326 is close? Regards Cat

...although it's nylon, as oppose to the original silk!

Hi Cat, yes 326 is a perfect match.
Not sure when the Record Breaker was first introduced but they were more than likely using nylon on all their rods by the 1950s.
During the war when nylon was hard to come by, due to most of it being used for parachutes and cords etc. After the war it rapidly replaced silk due to being cheaper and stronger for its size and weight. Silk once again became a luxury product as it is today.

Wal, thank you. Yet again, you get a Gold Star! Out of interest, are they highly regarded rods, as to be honest, not really my cup of tea with the shortish handle? Much appreciated regards Cat.

I love the Record Breaker, same blank as the Lucky Strike, so off to a good start already 👍

I think they are great rods to use. A screw in extension is a big help if you want it to feel better balanced without altering the rods original handle.
Like Andy says, they are more or less a Lucky Strike but with a nicer finish.

Sounds like a great idea Wal, but it has a cap rather than a screw fitting on the butt!

Easily swapped Cat. The cap will come off if you warm it up and can be refitted if you wish to revert the rod back to standard.
These are perfect for a screw in conversion. https://chapmanblanks.co.uk/?page_id=99
