Bamboo Supliers,

Post by Mike Crompton »

With the demise of BS- Bamboo of Colne does anyone know of a supplier of larger diameter bamboo. Is anyone aware if somebody took over this firm? I am seeking such to make a couple of float tubes.
Suggestions would be welcome.

You will have a problem Mike. I used to use BS for all my bamboo needs for a good few years , tubes, net poles , net frames etc, but it folded. One of the directors called Nathan took it on ,sadly he could not make a go of it and once again it folded.

As far as I know there is no supplier in the North of England who has Bamboo of the Dia you need, there are several suppliers elsewhere but they are all a good way away and although they will supply by courier the costs are very very prohibitive.

I was speaking with another angler a short while ago, I cannot remember who it was, but he had visited a garden centre and saw some large dia bamboo poles used in a display , he asked if they would sell him one and bingo he had one !

Maybe you could get lucky in a similar fashion.

Several of the garden centres around here - North Norfolk - have large poles so I’m sure there will be some available where you are.

A few years ago I got a large diameter bamboo pole from a garden centre. Have looked and enquired but no luck. Also on my regular visits to car boots have failed. Will just have to keep trying.
Thanks for the encouragement.

Hi, Again.
Have just looked at ukbamboo.com website. They have a wonderful range but the big drawback is the cost of postage. They do a craft pack of assorted sizes, both full, and half round bamboo in approximately 30 cms lengths for £42 including delivery. There seem to be approximately 20 pieces in each pack with a variety of colours , types and sizes.
It is a possibility, maybe some of my fellow wittlers and bodgers might be interested to share a pack.
Many thanks for the reference.
Mike

I think I have a pole section somewhere that I made into a tip holder if you're interested? What size internal measurement are you looking for?
