Allcocks Aerial - advice please - asap

Post by CraigM »

Have been offered an Allcocks Aerial for £100.

Seller says it's in very good condition & all working.

Looks similar to a Match Aerial but the inner open part of the reel is a much smaller diameter than the outer part with the handles on it & 10 holes if that makes sense.

4 & 1/2' diameter & 1' across. Looks reasonable - some paint loss.

Do I go for it or go for one of the Match Aerials on eBay? Quite like the idea of something slightly different.

RSVP. Thanks.

That sounds like one of these:

Lot 242...as you can see...£30 to £50 and that's an auction house price!

Sounds like a C815 model craig, about the going rate for one of those I think but better qualified will confirm soon. I had one a few years ago but sold it as I wasn't using it much. Depends what you wanted to use it for, the match aerial would be a better trotting reel.

"morning" Craigm, :Hat:

Could it be a 4 1/2" model C815?

I think the C815 model or it's predecessor the 7950 were only ever available in 3 1/2, 3 3/4 or 4" not 4 1/2". It sounds interesting; any chance of getting hold of some pictures?

I like the C815's, but not a traditional match trotting reel, its more for heavier lines 6-12lb, one went on Ebay last night for £67.00.

See my blog, two were found in one week, £100 and £30.

A good one for £100 is very much worth it.

Hi Craig, :Hat:

This is my Match Aerial, not bad for it's age although the box has borne the brunt of it's history!

Personally, I think a better option for trotting.

All of my reels have the line temporarily removed, are cleaned and re-lubed after every use, whether they look clean or not. As far as I am concerned, this is the best way of ensuring that they "perform" at their best on the next occasion, never been wrong yet! :Thumb:
