Just caught a new pb bream on the Thames, of 8lb4. A promising start to the seaon fishing in a new spot.. My old pb was 7lb8. Coincidentely I was fishing last night and wittnesd a friend catch his new pb bream of 7lb 10 from the same place; which all in all suggest this years fishing prospects are good; especially since I'm fishing this new spot from my moored narrowboat where I may well stay for a few weeks. Incidently, it's the same place where another friend caught several double barbel last year and illness meant I was not able to fish there. I hope to get a good pic in the morning!

A beauty of a river bream, doubly so for the Thames; well done!

A hunch which may be worth checking: I had a chance to fish a small lake rather stuffed (over-stuffed, according to the carpistas) with small but "netter" bream and was catching them at easy centre-pin range, say, two or two'n'a half rods lengths. When I netted a fish to unhook it, there would be pause in the proceedings, but if I could see the hook and get down and unhook the fish in the water, then quite often, sport proceeded fruitfully, suggesting that it inspired far less of an urge to quit the area and take its friends with it. No use if they're coming out at a size which demands weighing for posterity, of course, but for run of the mill fish, it might be worth a go... has anybody else noticed this?

Well done on the pb, I love bream and promise myself an autumn attack on a big one - trouble is there's so many other fish and so little time but maybe this year.
