The most precious places in the English landscape are those secretive corners,
where you find only elder trees, nettles and dreams. (BB - Denys Watkins-Pitchford).

Re: Allcocks Range of Rods
Wow that's some list!!! I'm not sure why my colonel is only 7 feet? it measures approx 82 to 83 inches (depending on where the screw reel fitting is positioned).
Now..... it must have a few inches missing from the tip, the butt section is 44 inches and the tip is 39 1/2 inches, but I can't for the life of me see how it could ever have been 8 feet which is the shortest colonel listed above, any ideas?

Re: Allcocks Range of Rods
There's also a load more in the 38-39 book that have just a catalogue number, so are completely unidentifiable unless one looks at every entry with the rod beside you......and would you even know if it's an Allcocks anyway if it had no transfer....and it seems few did?
Apart from the spiral transfer of the pre-war Wallis Wizards I'd thought that perhaps none had a transfer until Dave the Rod's image of a Sapper roach road the other day.

Re: Allcocks Range of Rods
Of the few Allcocks 'no name' rods I've seen with no transfer, most have had 'Allcocks' stamped into the butt hardware. I have seen a few with a generic gold Allcocks transfer too.
Agree with Nobby that the only way to identify many is to go though the guide with the rod to hand, but with different rings, whippings and hardware often being used on the same blank, if its been restored you may only be able to narrow it down to one of two or three models.
I suspect very few, if any, of quite a lot the older models have survived though.

Re: Allcocks Range of Rods
The colonel I have has the gold oval transfer, I'll have to have a go at uploading some pictures (i've tried before Nobby with the rod I planed up but I couldn't, I think the file was too big?).
I also have a spanish reed rod (very clean reed, no staining) which I'm sure is a Gloria, this looks identical to one on another thread somewhere, but this has no transfer and no stamp on any brassware?
