Can anybody help with this Priory rod identification please?

It is an exactly 11ft long, 3 piece all split cane in a lovely flamed finish, it is as straight as an arrow, the handle is 19" long, the priory label is complete.

It has a white ceramic lined butt & tip ring, with high stand off intermediate rings, the only fault, is it will need a re-whip.

It has the original 3 section rod bag with priory label

I am assuming it is either a float rod or a general bottom fishing rod

Does anybody have any ideas?

Also, any idea on a value in the current state?

hi . most priory rods were made to order,just pop into their christchurch shop and told them what you wanted and you got it,often bought by locals to fish the avon and stour,hence models such as the throop,royalty ect were made to the specification you wanted,your rod looks like a general float rod,but it should have a aluminium butt collar and rubber button,good quality rods well worth restoring and collecting, as not made in large numbers,i think they stopped trading in about 1960,i hope this helps. best wishes chubman,

Thanks for that, I have a rubber button which will fit, and should be able to locate an aluminium collar.

I thought float rod, but my reservation is the butt section is very sturdy, if it is a float rod, I would thick it is a stepped up version for long trotting!

Anybody able to throw any light on this?

Pafpuff i have just bought a Priory Rod exactly the same as your,s

I would think the rod was designed for barbel fishing.






Just found another Priory rod 11ft marked as the Royalty

Pafpuff don't worry about value at the moment seriously good cane from a very under estimated builder Most of these were built bespoke to fish on the royalty most of the good ones never reach fleebay as they go into private sales look after it and enjoy in a few years time you will not regret

I sold mine, probably back in Nov last year, I didn't like it that much, so sold it on to buy something else, does very much look like the one I sold.

Just noticed whilst restoring the rod that it,s hollow built, at eleven foot long it,s nice and light.

This one just need,s the ferrules tightening/re-gluing and a set of ring,s.

Ah Lmj you bought my friends rod on e-bay,. That one was better than the one I sold back in Nov, and I got less for his one, although he was happy with it made.

The one i bought was not your mates rod i got mine from a private sale in Ipswich and was owned by a Mr L.A. Jones. who owned the rod from new.

Picked up with a nice little joblot
