An apple corer works really well to give barbel sized cylinders when pushed into a tin of meat.

just seen a video by a young american lad fishing for catfish who to make his hot dog bait firmer puts it in a plastic bag that contains salt and whacks it in the fridge he says it makes the dog up to 4 times firmer. sounds good if it works cause don't carp anglers these days use salt in their mixes cause they say the carp love it

found the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APqQ5oFtla0

The Americans do make me laugh with their hooks. If he thinks that's little I'd love to show him a packet of size 22s! And notice how much he leaves showing! Still, it seems to work over there.

Bacon Grill stays on well. I also use Gammon. Very tuff and you can often take a few fish on the same piece. Bream and Skimmers love it!

It may be remembered that Americans do not usually fish for smaller coarse (type) fish with smaller mouths, using smaller baits. Bass, muskie, walleye, catfish etc can be big fish with large mouths, hook sizes for them being relative.

American fly fishers, on the other hand, can give us all a lesson on finesse flies and presentation.
