Of course, I forgot: my rate is somewhat 8 to 8 out of 10. Too ambitious from time to time.

I'm getting there slowly, another 4 or 5 years and I should hopefully have it.

Re: Who can Wallis cast? ....
My first forays were a little disappointing to say the least, but now I feel I'm "Getting a Handle on it... I can now confidently leave my entire rig in the tree or other bankside vegetation with relative ease.... and I'm slowly progressing to leaving hooks in my trousers and even, on one memorable occasion, almost casting a passer by into the pond... I started out with a heavier float to aid the cast, and after the concussed chap woke up I decided that I was competent enough to try something lighter.... with hindsight a 3x12 mini- porcupine quill was not the best choice, but my wife thinks that the size 18 Kamasan looks good as an earring... I have to say, that for my own preferences the two fingers of looped line work well for me and I have subsequently given the Wallis cast the two aforementioned fingers
Just one more cast love, and I'll be on me way home

Isn't it supposed to be easier if one uses a rod like a Wizard with a short handle?? What rods do you chaps use for Wallis casting??? Handle length and butt ring position are supposedly important.

Super Wizard, MKIV Avon and MKIV for me. So far at least...It matters more if weight is lighter like a float. When ledger or feeder it doesn't play a big role what kind of rod as long as it matches the weight...

Re: Who can Wallis cast? ....
The one time I tried it used a two ounce weight. It did feel out of proportion to the light rod with hindsight. Maybe three swan shot next time? On my small ponds it's not an issue really. But it would be a nice show off occasionally

Taught myself over a couple of seasons, years ago. You get better with practice least that's what I found anyway. Any rod you like, light float or a swim feeder is not that hard really once you get the hang of it. Honestly.

Re: Who can Wallis cast? ....
Did it brilliantly.....once!
Found by practicing in a field with just a 1oz weight attached reasonably successful
But as soon as I got bank side with bait, hook and float attached to the line and a slight breeze it was a different ball game. It goes as gracefully through the air as the cow in a tornado does from the beginning of The Wizard of Oz.
The only time I get it further than 10 yards is when the line snaps, then of course it travels 30 yards without any bother.
