I would appreciate any tips for a forthcoming trip to the Wye in late September .
We will be fishing the following Wye and Usk stretches :
1) Lower Backney
2) Foy Bridge
3) How Caple Court
I am hoping for a barbel and will be targetting them so any advice on methods or tactics very much appreciated !
Thanks DWW

Re: River Wye Trip for late September - Any advice please ?
Hi DWW - sorry to say that I don't fish these sections but the Wye and Usk Foundation have plenty of information on these beats. When there is some colour in the feeder many barbel fishers use pellets and Woody in Hereford thinks that Halibut are still one of the best baits in these conditions. Matchman Dave Harrell fishes pellets on the float successfully too. If its low and clear the preference seems to be the maggot / caster feeder in known swims......

Trouble is, the fish just don't read the books......
