Aspindale 763 15ft? 3 piece spanish reed and split cane rod
Hi all, I'm a new member, this is my first post, so apologies if this is a silly question.
I recently bought a load of fishing gear from a gentleman whose father had passed away.
Amongst it is an Aspindale's Spanish reed rod, 3 piece, bottom 2 sections are reed, and a half and half tip section of reed and split cane.
It's in generally fine shape varnish is nice and clean no issues, there are a few indications of rust on the intermediate rings but the butt and tip agates are mint.
It is marked Aspindales of redditch at the base of the butt and it has aserial number of 763 just above the handle.
The whole thing assembled would probably at least 15ft long.
So far so good, however it came second in a scrap with a car door and the mid section is crushed, not terminally but it's proper repair job to do.
My question is: is it worth doing? How do I find out the correct way to go about doing it, or is it not worth the fuss.
Your opinions would be gratefully received.

Yes, it can be done depending on what the reed is like, where the break is etc. My method is to cut through the break and splice in a piece of hollow glass (i.e. an offcut from a glass rod) and repair. If done well, you should be able to whip over the repair and almost not know it is there.

Worth posting some pics I'd say.

Firstly, welcome to the forum and I would agree, post some pictures so we can see what you're up against.

I hope you can see three shots there.
First is the damage, second is the butt marks, and the third is the joint area of reed to cane.
I like the idea of cutting and inserting a spigot, very simple and I've done it dozens of times on 'other materials'then just whip over the cut/join area.
I was wondering whether drilling into the flappy bit and then pulling it into place and gluing, rub down and varnish and whip over would be better option.
I can see me raiding someone's allotment for a suitable spigot though
