I was given this catalogue at the weekend.
These included fine fishing baskets for 40/- to 50/- and a selection of books .
Not to mention Young's very own MAGIC FISH LURE
Did anyone on this site ever try it?
Amongst the hunting and trapping goods , racing pigeon tonics , poultry gear and fruit picking devices it offered a few angling related items.Young's Sporting Appliances and Sundries

In order to shoot some close-ups, wildlife photographer ,the late Len Scapstillon, lured the orca to him by dressing as a seal.......

Re: Young's Sporting Appliances and Sundries
I'd love to know what it was and just how effective, from a time with rather loose advertising regulations

Wasn't that red stuff which came in a tube named Magic. A bare hook smeared with this stuff did actually catch fish but I dont know what was in it.
I think I have a tube somewhere. I'll check it out.
Wal.

Sorry not magic, it is called Mystic. It can't be that old either as it has a website address on the tube.

I always grabbed a couple of tubes when I was in France. If I remember correctly there was green and yellow colours too.

Allegedly made and used to look like bloodworm I was told!
Still available via that "Great South American River" trading company!! - - -
"""Mystic: the must-have bait.
Mystic offers a range of coloured bait pastes to replace traditional angling baits.
Mystic bait pastes are easy to apply and hold well on the hook; they don't sink or dissolve in water.
They will not go off with the cap firmly closed, so they will keep for a very long time. Can be used on their own or mixed with other baits (get excellent results with worms, maggots, etc).-
