Re: Falcon of Redditch?
This rod is probably the Falcon version of an Aspindale Goldendale.

Re: Falcon of Redditch?
Could any tell me what kind of line strength they use on their Aspindale Aero if they have one?
I’m assuming that the falcon version made by Ken would have the same taper and Is also hollow built.
Regards
Dan

Re: Falcon of Redditch?
Here's a couple of pages from the Falcon catalogue showing the Monarch as a spinning rod and was available in 5 models of 7ft to 10ft.

Re: Falcon of Redditch?
Excellent info Wal "Probably the finest rod for dry fly fishing ever made" is some statement. I shall have to find a SSDFS and put that to the test! It's 2 line weights too heavy for my general liking mind. Any owners of rods in the Merlin or Kestrel ranges on here I wonder? If so I'd love to hear your thoughts and comparisons

Re: Falcon of Redditch?
Hi Channi,
I’ve just been browsing to some older posts, as I stumbled on the Monarch again whilst reading the David Petty’s “One man one rod” (nice diverting book with a great selection of rods and tackle)
He listed the 9ft version of the rod as carp rod.
Just unpacked mine a thought it might be great for bigger fish, when going for more than 6-8lb lines.
And there I saw that I didn’t answer to your post back than (Sorry for that!!) .
So ‘yes’ my 10ft rod ( No. 166) comes with pink ceramic inlays all over.
Just checked them. The condition is quite good and I just began planning the first trip in 2024
Maybe I’ll manage to build a couple of floats by than.
To fish is to live, it’s as simple as that!

Indeed, I've been happy to run 12lb through my 10' Monarch for bass spinning and larger carp. Nice rods!

Re: Falcon of Redditch?
Which reel do you use for bass spinning on this rod?
