Maggot and Pinkie Riddle
I am thinking about making my own wooden framed maggot and pinkie riddles.
Can anyone confirm the mesh size I need for these and where I could purchase it from, am I correct in thinking it would be best in stainless steel.

I don’t use them but my brother does and he tells me he uses 4mm for maggots and that his pinkie one is under 2mm!

Interested also - after an episode watching chub on the Wye picking out only the caster from some old maggots, I’d like to turn some proper quality caster (because you just can’t buy them like the old days, when the shops would be properly managing their stock and turning them onsite).

Re: Maggot and Pinkie Riddle
My plan was to get some good riddles and to then consult the old match fishing books. Happy to report back in due course! I remember being on maggot room duty back in 1981 when I was a Saturday lad at Romford Angling Centre but only vague memories remain (mainly the smell of what I was told was ammonia).

Re: Maggot and Pinkie Riddle
A maggot and pinkie riddle?
Is a small maggot a pinkie and is a big pinkie a maggot?
If maggots and pinkies do exercises, are they squats?
There you go - two riddles. How many can you want?

I have some square galvanised mesh that I used to make one, I’ll check the hole size and pm you.
You are welcome to pick some up on the way home from the soar anytime.

Re: Maggot and Pinkie Riddle
I have used the kit attached for some twenty years. I usually buy two pints of maggots these days and I tip them onto the mesh when I get home. Any dead maggots are saved for ground bait. The others are put in the fridge if I want to keep them as maggots. if I want casters I leave them out of the fridge and the sieve them every day or so to collect the casters. Simple, clean and effective.
