I think on the Floatcaster deluxe the reel fitting is different, there is also a difference between early and later rods, particularly the ferrules.

Isn't that a Hardy rod?

They may well do, my Sealey Octopus "The General" was whipped in green. In a green Edgar Sealey 1 section bag, (all that I have left). I am delighted to think Hardy may have copied it, the Ebay rod was very rough looking and may well have gone to someone on this forum?

No rod, but found a photo of a Sealey "the general". As Nobby pointed out, Hardy made "the general", and I wonder if Sealey renamed their rod to avoid any disputes and problems? If so this would explain the difficulty in finding a Sealey "the general". So I assume they would issue this rod under a different name, and what would it now be? A butt and mid section of whole cane with a builtcane tip. Around 11ft or 11ft 6 inches, 1956-7 ish?? Any ideas??

Am I right in assuming that the split cane course rods consists of

Light ledger
Medium ledger
Heavy ledger
Octofloat
Octofloat deluxe
Float caster
Float caster deluxe
Rover

Is there any that I'm missing? Slowly slowly building my collection and making space in the man shed.. Quick query I know the difference between the octofloat and deluxe was quality of fittings and intermediates- would the octofloat originally have come with agate tip and butt rings as well?

Thanks AB

Hi Anglingbear, I am working on a Sealey "Strikerite" at the moment. Its a 2 piece split cane plus separate butt, very similar to the Chapman 500 rods. Just under 10ft long so not really sure if its the correct length.

Pete, could be a floatcaster (not deluxe).

There was a Match Rod later on...might be Spanish reed though...???

I don't think Hardy would be able to claim the word General as 'theirs' though. Apart from the obscurely origined military title it's a word in.....well...general use :Hahaha:
