home made traditional landing net
I have just finished my traditional landing net.
The arms are from a hardy spit cane salmon rod at 600mm long, I was lucky as this rod had 2 tip sections of Identical diameter, the ferrules fit nice n snug into the spreader block.
The spreader block is cast alloy painted brass colour as I could not source a solid brass one, but it works.
The bottom net handle section is from the same rod, complete with a twist lock ferrule (see photo 3)
The second part of the handle is from a bamboo cane, I used the male twist lock from the salmon rod
The handle is 5ft long overall

Most excellent work

Brilliant work Pafpuff and a very nice stow-able length when disassembled.

Nice frame, not sure about the mesh being very kind on the fins though.
Traditional looking but traditionally there were a lot of split fins too.

I agree with Shuan on this one, a modern net mesh would be much kinder to the fish.
Not a fish was visible that first time I visited Beechmere; an utter
stillness brooded over the place and I felt the strange and sinister atmosphere which, so the story goes,
has been the cause of several suicides.’

Point taken, but it is a replacement mesh for a salmon gye net.
This will be used for my barbel fishing
