Re: ABU CARDINAL 40 (Revisited)
Today I fished with all restored and vintage tackle. Firstly I'd like to thank everyone who helped with information about ABU Cardinal reels especially the 40 on the earlier "ABU Cardinal 40" thread. I enjoyed reading your comments immensely. I raise my hat to you all. So today I managed to christen the Cardinal 40 along with the Chapman 550 MK4 carp rod also a Ambidex No'1 casting reel paired with a cane rod I purchsed in Romsey at an antiques fair for £12 (needed a bit of work though) this is known as 'The Heron' not the B. James one. Anyway I managed to catch 4 Carp 1 Mirror and 3 Commons the last one being about 10lb. All were caught on prawn at Dandysford Fishery. OH! it was very cold too.
All in all I must say I absolutely love the Cardinal 40 and wished I had discovered and used them back in the 70's
Who knows, I might never had used Mitchell reels.

What a fantastic day!
Great to see the 40 is still such a choice reel.

You've got some fine tackle there and 4 carp are a fantastic way to christen the old rods and reels.
I used an Abu Cardinal 6 for the first time on Friday but couldn't catch any fish unfortunately. The Cardinals seem to be nice reels though.

Thank you Black Prince I restored the rods myself, hadn't varnished and whipped for a long time.
