My Catapult
So……
To further my transition into a world of more suitable and elegant fishing tackle I decided that I shall make myself a catapult. The thought process kicked into gear and I found myself at work scribbling down design notes. The plans were amazing, this was to be the most revolutionary catapult ever seen, the one EVERYONE would want! As it turned out I finished the catapult this morning and you really could find a more simple one, very ordinary but I happen to quite like it.
First job was to find a suitable branch, preferably old so that I would have to wait months for the wood to dry out. At a closed season work party I found a few suitable twigs from a pile of old dead trees being used to block up the entrance to a closed swim. These were gathered and thrown into the shed ready for the next phase.
Then the wood was shaped. This consisted of chopping the ends off to size to create the “Y” shape. Two small holes were drilled through the uprights and the elastic and pouch kit (princely sum of £3) was attached.
Voila, a catapult built in around ten minutes, perfectly usable, very traditional and one that will be in my tackle bag now every time I go fishing!!!!

Re: My Catapult
Now that takes me back a few decades, Nice one SK :thumb:
I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete.

For a really evocative description of an Old School catapult, look in Richard Shelton's book "The Longshoreman" (a great read, and former R4 "Book of the Week"). Great stuff, as is your own catty.

Looks good SK, now don't go causing mischief with it in Portsmouth!
