Blenheim Palace Lake
I'm fishing Blenheim Palace lake in a couple of weeks, for the first time and from a boat. I am wondering if anyone here has ever fished it and if so what is the best way to tackle it.

Re: Blenheim Palace Lake
I have fished it several times Mark.
I assume you are fishing for pike and or perch.
It is a difficult place to fish as location is the key. Last time I was there in March the lake was crystal clear and we could see the bottom. It was featureless and there were not fish anywhere! Depressing stuff. If it is coloured then it would be different I think.
I would fish it with a deadbait for the pike on the bottom with a sliding pilot float and stop knot (it is deep and about 15-18 feet in the middle) then fish lures with a second rod.
I would come out of the boathouse and head towards the bridge. Anchor off the bushes and fish a dead bait towards the lake centre and lure fish as well or fish for perch with worms/red maggots off the bushes. Move up to the bridge which is a good holding area for predators.
Another good spot for perch in particular had be up the inlet stream which has lots of features and snags.
Take lots of warm clothing!

Just chatted to a gent who was there two weeks ago. Very similar advice to that of Mr Snape. Deadbaits popped up just off bottom from the middle of the lake towards the bridge worked for him and his colleague on the day.
I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete.

Re: Blenheim Palace Lake
A year ago I managed this double figure pike just off the bridge on mackerel deadbait on the bottom.
It had fresh bite marks on both flanks where a bigger fish had recently had a go at it!
There are some huge pike and perch in there.
Good luck... :thumb:

I have to agree with all the above, the bridge end by the reeds for either pike or perch. A lovely lake to fish. The opposite end is quite deep right up to the reeds, about fifteen feet.
BTW that's a nice pike there Snape.
Keep rowing every 20 minutes and move on....unless you're catching of course!
