Wildie ancestry ........... or not?

Post by Julian »

Caught this ten pound common today from the Mill Pool (full journal report to follow soon).
Would you say this is fairly close to being a wildie or not - just curious to know views of members:

Well Sir its got the length for it.

At 10lb is fairly big for a wildie. Cracking fish well done
I have laid aside business, and gone a'fishing.

To give the size a bit of context, the three-section hooking mat it is lying on is exactly 12 inches per section. You can see the carp is just over two of those sections in length , so the carp is slightly over two feet in length.

Wildie or not that's a lovely long lean fish Julian.
I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete.

I would say it qualified as a feral type common carp which could therefore be called wildie.
It is doing a pretty good impression of the wildie in Fennel's guide here http://www.fennelspriory.com/downloads/ ... cation.pdf

Lovely fish anyway :Thumb:
Chance is always powerful. Let your hook be always cast; in the pool where you least expect it, there will be a fish

I think so to. Too much time is spent worrying about the pedigree of fish. Mostly with roach and roach hybrids but also carps. A nice fish is a nice fish as far as I'm concerned. And that is a nice fish, Julian. Well done on your catch. I'm envious.

Deeply forked tail, longish tail root, lean body..it seems to tick the boxes, Julian.
