[quote="FabianFred"]Match reels are pretty rare...according to 'the book'
I just got one of those No.2 reels with the upright metal AR lever and stripped it for a clean (as you do).
I noticed that there was a ball bearing race under the large scew retaining the bail to the flyer??!! Never seen that in other models have you?
No I've never seen that before....it looks like a main shaft rear bearing race mounted in the wrong place.

Re: anyone have a clean Ambidex match?
I'm forced to disagree with you on this...it looks exactly like the rear rotor shaft bearing of an Ambidex and I'll bet these bearings are unique too...six small ball bearings captured in a resinous race with a thin metal face....I've never seen another bearing race like these elsewhere in my life.FabianFred wrote:That is definately a different sized ball race on the bail screw there...it is much thinner than the one on the end of the flyer shaft...
I wonder if a certain member could ask his tea club mates about it?

Re: anyone have a clean Ambidex match?
Yes, it's the wrong way round:
I'm fairly certain the bail arm should be attached to that stub permanently...it is on my reel.
The Match bail arm is unique, the Mark 9 will not fit and it's that stub...and the longer plate on the other end that allow the bail arm to 'just' clear the front face of the special Match spools.
I like the circlip replacement idea

Re: anyone have a clean Ambidex match?
I thought it was soldered! I didn't dare force mine.......
You might find that putting the pivot on the wrong way around causes the bail arm to rub on the spool lip..it really is that close. I guess it can be corrected after assembly if it proves so, though.
How are the side plate transfers coming along?
I hope yours goes easier than mine did...

That's actually a Mark 9 but they are very similar, just the spools and bail arm differ....I think!

'small-end' to a British engineer :-)
Yes indeed, the spools have a Delrin plastic arbour to 'block-up' the spool.
