Precision Rods "R. Sealey's Matchwinner JFT." 13ft.
Shortly to be collected is this Precision Rods "R. Sealey's Matchwinner JFT."
As some of you may know I already have examples of the 11ft. 3 in., 12ft., and 13ft. 6in. versions of this rod ... so finding this 13ft. version might make a 'set' ... unless a 10ft. 6in. version turns up !!!!! I have dreams about finding a catalogue for this company (or should that be nightmares ???) !!!
Just to confirm ... it's a 3 piece rod with a Spanish Reed butt, Whole cane spliced to whole cane centre, and whole cane spliced to split cane tip.

A list of your rods is probably the nearest thing to a catalogue we shall ever see!!

I did wonder if it was Jointed Fast Taper or something but yes it could be someone's initials "Jimmy Flick Tip" the all England champion

... or 'Just Flippin' Tremendous.' The enigma is part of why I love these rods.Wallys-Cast wrote:I did wonder if it was Jointed Fast Taper or something but yes it could be someone's initials "Jimmy Flick Tip" the all England champion Wal.
It could be anything ... though we know that they have a history of naming rods after special events ... like the 'Festival of Britain' (I believe) ... and the birth (I believe) of the polar bear cub 'Brumas' at London Zoo.
I suspect I may have to visit Angling Heritage at Torrington to research their stock of magazines from the 1950s.

AC Sir, you may be interested - or distressed (?!) to learn that there is also a 12ft version of the Matchwinner which has a whole cane/ split cane middle and all split cane tip section.
I got it as part of a bundle of bits and sadly the rod is probably beyond repair (though the butt ring and tip sections will be recycled). Another one to look out for?
