Apologies for my tardiness, Sir. Yes ... cork over alloy tube it is !!!
The 'set' in the tip was eased out over my heat gun in just on 10 minutes (thank you Andrew, Sir ... your tutelage still stands me in good stead !!!) ... and the rod is now ready for action.
As it was on arrival ...

It is an Aspindale button! Many of their rods have the same colour - white/cream.
It now looks compared to the selling picture! The mention of the "set" did put me off - - unfortunately!

Looks to be a very fine rod indeed and a lovely restoration job.
