A lovely rod - I have two similar type rods from Aspindale but I think a little lighter! The Linton looks very nice as well. What year of manufacture?

Re: Chapman The Bengeo
How very, very nice....and a proper Chapman rare one. And a very nice restoration from the pictures. Well found, Ljm!
Age: The catalogue image is c.'61/'62, from memory. But, and I stand to be corrected, I think rods of that period had gold labels and the "script" labels came later?
It may have been made by Chapmans at anytime at all, I suppose - possibly to special order of someone who saw it in the "old" catalogue. Or the old Gold label may have disintegrated and been lost in the restoration? The gold labels are very fragile, both in applying them and in later life.
Did I say I am not envious....?!!

All it,s had is the male ferrule re-glued, one ring on the tip section replaced and a fresh coat of varnish.
I believe the rod to be an early sixties model, this would have been when Chapman started using the script decal.

That is a beauty. I love rods of this size and with Chapman quality, perfect.
If you have no grease with you, and your rings are full of ice, do not cut out the ice with a pen-knife but get your man to put the rings one by one in his mouth, and so to thaw the ice.

Hear, Hear, Fredline, on both counts.
Early sixties sounds right. I wasn't aware that the scripted labels appeared so early.
This probably explains my Amwell, which came from my godfather and really must have been early to mid-60s, yet has a script label, not Gold.
Ace rod that Bengeo.

As with most Chapman rods named after a small Village in Herts. Just north of Hertford. Also named after rivers.
