Olly, you're going to be made to sit in pedant's corner with your 550 (but fair point)!

At a guess it might have been an Oliver's rod. They certainly offered a MkV Avon. Alternatively it may have been an Augutters – I believe they also offered what they called a MkV.

Re: MkIV cane carp rod list?
It took a while but I as I have had to have a day off work I managed to dig through the rods stored in my unit and come up with these.
L to R
B James Ealing London mkIV Avon
J Moore mkIV with Ted Oliver's fittings (I just had to slip that one in)
J W Southwell Croydon mkIV
Constables 44
Farstrike mkIV
Allcocks Carp Superb
I have collected far to many rods over the past 45 years and one fine day I will have to move some on I will inform forum members first and then if nobody is interested I will send to auction..
A Merry Christmas to everybody and all the fishy best for 2022
John.

Re: MkIV cane carp rod list?
Ogden Smith ‘Carp Major’
Aspindales ‘Goldendale’
Chapmans ‘Carp’
Chapmans ‘550’ even though it’s two piece with separate handle
Allcocks ‘Carp/Avon twin tip’
Allcocks ‘Carp Superb’
J B Walkers of Hythe ‘Mk4 Kit’
Constables ‘Forty Fore’
Not sure if to add the Peter Buttler Specialist as tapers are different, and the Chapmans ‘Quinette Mk8’ being five sided, but the same length and guide spacing x many traditional Mk4 type rods

J B Walker of Hythe. May have offered the Mk IV Avon, in addition to their standard Mk IV Carp. They definitely also offered the S/U Mk IV. All these were available as complete-at-home kits, I am not sure if there was the option to buy completed rods from them.

Re: MkIV cane carp rod list?
J B Walkers would build for customers, some come up locally from time to time that are obviously professionally built but are also not marked with anything to say they were shop bought finished rods, usually just something the customer wanted on them. Geoff, son of J B, visited me at my workshop a few years ago and lives just down the road, lovely guy, and after their workshop closed he mover to Australia and worked as a painter and decorator until he retired and returned to the UK a few years ago.Peter Wilde wrote: ↑Fri Dec 17, 2021 6:00 pm J B Walker of Hythe. Re: MkIV cane carp rod list?
There are some excellent articles on the development of the Mk iv's in the early carp fisher magazines with several photos, albeit in black and white format.
