Rod and Line by Arthur Ransome

Post by Mark »

Earlier this week I managed to purchase a 1935 Edition of Rod and Line by Arthur Ransome. It looks virtually unread and at just £35.00 a bargain I thought.

The most precious places in the English landscape are those secretive corners,
where you find only elder trees, nettles and dreams. (BB - Denys Watkins-Pitchford).

Blimey, Mark, that price was actually pretty steep - did you have a look on Abebooks first, or was it a spur-of-the-moment purchase?

Looking at them Davyr they are all 1940's plus and don't sound as good condition as the one I have.

Anyhow what's a few quid extra for a 77 year old book, I'm happy with it. :D

A good read, regardless of edition.

I thought of his "On tackle shops" this morning when, having popped into my local to get some bait, the assistant stopped me browsing by taking my money while his boss went out back to find it, and then when I asked advice on local rivers the boss responded, "No idea mate, I'm lakes only".

A pity in so many ways!

Yes the first chapter 'On Tackle Shops' does remind me of the tackle shops I visited as a kid.
