Pezon & Michel spinning rod

Post by Snape »

I was having a sort out and discovered this rod among my things. I don’t know where I got it from or when. I’ve never used it.
It’s a Pezon & Michel 7’ spinning rod. It says Sport and 900 on the butt and is dated 2.5.53. It has something about g (presumably casting weight but I can’t make it out).
I have no idea about this rod, if it’s collectible or of any value.
Does anyone know anything?
Thanks

They're highly regarded as great quality spinning rods and tend to fetch good prices on the bay

As above!

5* - fly/spinning rods - made rods for some UK companies!

Added: - one was Farlows - fly rods.

I’ve looked at a couple of P & M lighter spinning rods. I didn’t buy but the quality seemed up there with Hardy frankly. They certainly seem to be considered that way by a couple of fly anglers I know.

Of the cane and the blank's design, I can say nothing.
The only thing I can add about this rod is the fact that the 2-legged, hard chrome rings used were made by H & H, years ago.
I found a couple of good sources of these - including Pete "CrayCane" of this parish - and have re-rung 3 rods with them.
Davenport and Fordham used them on various glass carp rods. They're very elegant and work as well as any other pattern. They're nice things in their own right.

Pezon et Michel introduced machines to plane the cane accurately. I have one of their fly rods, made just as France declared war on Germany, the cane is not the best quality but the rod is needle straight and has an action that I like.

Dear Snape,
(Bit late) 'something about g' is the casting weight indeed, 8 to 18 gram. Inscriptions on P&M rod tend to be unreadable. This is a really good medium spinning rod - except the varnish... The Sport rods seem to be a bit cheaper version of the Luxor spinning rods.
