This is great. It brings out some excellent stories.Catfish.017 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 20, 2018 2:24 pm Interesting to see Homers advertising as makers of the News of The World prize rods. I have one of these that was presented to T H Goodwin for the capture of a 15lb carp in August 1934. It's a 10ft Sheffield style rod with two spliced top sections, one split cane the other greenheart.

Cheers for the offer Tony, but I have stopped making floats for awhile and already have lots of suitable material for when I restart.

..Have been doing a little catching up and just read this.
Such adverts are a wonderful insight into a bygone age but to me, the most remarkable thing is that the author-who also wrote others books, notably on fly fishing, was uncle of none other than the wonderful Alan Turing..who had probably, the finest analytical mind the world has ever known, though sadly, not publicly recognised during his lifetime-nor for many years after..

Don't have the hang of this yet. Want to thank you for posting the old adds. Just came across it. Invaluable for my research and so interesting. Thanks.

Plus the coarse fishing book by A.J. Rudd
