the allcocks ambidex?

Post by St.John »

Am I right in thinking that the allcocks ambidex that Chris yates describes in either casting or the deepening pool is the allcocks dico? And was this made by someone else for allcocks? Or am i just wrong that he described it so, it's been a while...!?

I haven't got the books to hand, but I'm reasonably sure the reel was a Young's Ambidex. As you suggest, the Duco was made by Youngs for Allcocks before the merger of the two companies (with Lee) in 1965 (as was the Delmatic).

It was a Youngs Ambidex 3. Why CY always called it the Allcock Ambidex is a mystery.

But he did call it an allcocks? I'm sure he did, but may be wrong... in that case was it a youngster ambedex he used or an allcocks duco?? Does it really matter?!!!

I have a Duco and it is black so i don't think it was one of those he uses, or at least i have not seen him use one on the goggle-box yet.
