Chance is always powerful. Let your hook be always cast; in the pool where you least expect it, there will be a fish

I caught many small tench from a farm pond near Rusper during the 1970s and also at Ardingly College lake but I never caught anything over 2lb. I caught my personal best tench from the River Bure at Horning in the mid 1990s, it weighed 9lb 8oz. I'm never likely to beat that. The tench in my local lake go to 7lb :-)
A 9lb 8oz river tench must be close to the British record for a river caught tench ?
Definitely a catch of a lifetime.

Julian,

I used to live at Horning on the River Bure. I went out with one of the eel fisherman in his boat one morning. In his nets were bream, tench and pike all close to the British records. I haven't fished the river since I left Norfolk but I expect they are probably still there :-)

Come the sixteenth of June I'll be after the Epping Forest Tench and Crucians.

Most of them are rather small though. Having said that the Pond I am fishing on opening day has done fish over 5lbs.
