Got my fingers off the float making & back onto the fly tying vice over the holidays, making some cased caddis for when the rivers eventually recede and I can get back out with the fly rod.
& a couple without cases.

Wow those are amazing! Can I ask what you use for the casing?
I have laid aside business, and gone a'fishing.

Re: Cased Caddis
The casings are made from river gravel collected from the river I'm planning to fish them on, that way they will look similar to the casings on the real cased caddis flies.

Do you just glue these onto a sleeve round the caddis then? Sorry for all the questions but I have been quite captivated by casting a fly.

No mate, you need to tie in the body first, in this case chamois leather, then you smear the hook in glue and coat with river gravel, as the glue dries you roll between your fingers to get a basic shape and leave to dry, Once dry you then put it back into the vice and tie in the hackle to finish off, I'm currently working on some with legs instead of hackle feathers, a bit tricky and its been a while since I done them last.Hovis wrote:Do you just glue these onto a sleeve round the caddis then? They look good enough to eat
Chance is always powerful. Let your hook be always cast; in the pool where you least expect it, there will be a fish
